Heredia, Costa Rica, It is known as the city of the Flowers due to the beautiful flora and fauna surrounding the city and its temperature typically varies from 63°F to 82°F and is rarely below 59°F or above 85°F. A relaxed and laidback place, the main attraction of Heredia is its superb colonial architecture that can be seen all over town and Heredia is only about a 20-minute drive (7 miles) from Juan Santamaria International Airport. 

Heredia is a great base If you do want to stay a couple nights in the Greater Metropolitan Area, San Jose, Alajuela and Cartago.

Heredia offers a fascinating choice of activities, from tours of the colonial city to exploring the local flora and fauna. There are other cities in the province that are worth visiting! For example the city of Santo Domingo, San Isidro, San Rafael, and San Jose de la Montana. Heredia is surrounded by the beautiful Zurqui Mountains and the Barva Volcano.

When exploring Heredia, do go to the top of Monte de la Cruz, where you will be treated to some spectacular views of the city, its surrounding areas and huge coffee plantations. From Heredia, one also gets the opportunity to view both the Poas Volcano and Barva volcano in the distance.

 

Braulio Carrillo National Park is a great national park if you are looking for some challenging hikes. If you love coffee, Britt is one of the most famous coffee producers in Costa Rica and visiting the Britt plantation is a great way to spend a morning.  Also NBioparque offer various trails to hike and see a lot of Costa Rica wildlife.

 

The park is unique because you can see several different types of Costa Rican forests including pre-mountainous dry and rainforests, and wetlands. The Barva Volcano is the highest point in Braulio Carrillo National Park at 10,000 feet above sea level. Barva is an awesome place to hike. For a family-friendly day trip, and of course don’t miss out on the La Paz Waterfall Gardens

 

Bosque de la hoja is an ideal place to enjoy the outdoors, the countryside and the Heredian forest. Here you can take your pets, spend time with your family in the ranches of the facilities or just take a walk through the trails of the place. It has a 6-kilometer (about 4 miles) trail that can be hiked in 2 hours, picnic areas, outdoor gyms and playgrounds for children. 

Heredia is a peaceful town with a lot of great options for half and full-day trips.
