The beautiful province of Guanacaste in northwestern Costa Rica is one of the best-known provinces in the country, is also the tourism capital of Costa Rica with extensive beaches, tropical forests, impressive waterfalls, active volcanoes and more. Guanacaste is home to world-class Costa Rica vacation destinations, hotels and all-inclusive resorts. 

The coastal towns of Tamarindo and Playa Grande are a must when visiting Guanacaste. The relaxed atmosphere, its beautiful beaches and the magnificent waves throughout the year make it a very attractive destination to visit.

Guanacaste has awesome weather year-round. From December to May is our Dry Season, which means we have absolutely no rain. The average temperature is 85 – 90 degrees and there is almost no humidity. From June to November, we have afternoon showers, starting at around 3 pm that last for maybe an hour or two. Then we have beautiful sunsets usually around 6 pm.

The Papagayo Tourism Pole is one of the international model tourism development centers and includes international hotel chains and a marina.  Liberia International Airport (LIR) lies just 30 minutes away from Peninsula Papagayo’s doorstep.

The most beautiful beaches are located in the extreme south of the province of Guanacaste, in the cantons of Carrillo, Santa Cruz, Nicoya, Hojancha and Nandayure, with top choices including Playa Panama, Playa Hermosa, del Coco, Ocotal, Pan de Azúcar, Potrero, Flamingo, Brasilito, Playa Conchal, Playa Grande, Tamarindo, Avellanas, Junquillal, Nosara, Garza, Guiones, Sámara, Carrillo, Islita, Corozalito, Bejuco and Coyote.

Guanacaste, it's safe to visit and the locals are incredibly kind. As with any new destination, take the necessary precautions for safety.
